Ducati Unveils Sneak Peek of Two Anticipated Models
Prepare yourself, motorcycle enthusiasts: Ducati is about to make waves with the unveiling of two thrilling models! The latest designs for the 2026 DesertX V2 and the street-legal Desmo450 EDS have recently been leaked through styling registrations, and what they reveal is definitely worth your attention.
While many were eagerly waiting for these bikes to be officially showcased, the leaked designs come as no real shock. The Desmo450 EDS closely resembles the prototype previously teased by Ducati, which shares its primary frame and body components with the competition-oriented Desmo450 EDX enduro bike that was already introduced in Ducati's 2026 lineup. What sets the EDS apart is its addition of a headlight—something Ducati hinted at in earlier previews—but the leaked images also show several essential road-ready features that weren’t visible in the initial show version. For instance, the final design includes mirrors, a rear license plate holder, and both front and rear turn signals, ensuring that this bike meets legal requirements for street use. Additionally, the exhaust system for the EDS will differ from those seen on current MX and EDX models; it features a longer header pipe that curves down significantly more than its off-road counterparts, along with a catalytic converter positioned next to the cylinder head, where the off-road models utilize a basic expansion chamber. An O2 sensor is integrated into the new header pipe to comply with emissions regulations.
Other subtle enhancements include the addition of a heel guard behind the right footpeg, designed to protect the rear brake cylinder, alongside new protective covers over the front sprocket and chain on the left side. A compact instrument panel and an ignition key switch are cleverly housed behind the front cowl, adding to the bike's sleek design.
The DesertX V2 model was also previewed at last year’s EICMA event, albeit partially obscured by eye-catching dazzle camo graphics and lacking some final features. The design registrations provide a clearer view of the completed motorcycle, showcasing those previously missing elements.
Visually, the DesertX V2 remains true to its predecessor, boasting a retro, Dakar-inspired silhouette. However, it now sits atop a newly designed monocoque-style alloy chassis that aligns with Ducati's latest V2 offerings. Under the hood, it houses the same powerful 890cc, liquid-cooled V-twin engine found in the most recent Panigale, Streetfighter, Multistrada, Monster, and Hypermotard V2 models. This integration not only streamlines production for Ducati but also enhances parts compatibility across their range. Notably, the new engine is lighter and more compact than the previous 937cc Testastretta, moving away from Ducati’s hallmark Desmodromic valve system in favor of traditional valve springs. It now incorporates variable intake valve timing, broadening the performance spectrum significantly.
When comparing the fresh design registrations for the DesertX V2 with the earlier prototype, it’s evident that additional components like mirrors (previously absent from the show model) have been included, along with a road-legal exhaust replacing the Termignoni pipe initially showcased.
Upon closer examination, the final design features a two-piece seat rather than the single-seat design seen during the preview, as well as a license plate bracket. Overall, it’s clear that the disguised prototype presented at EICMA closely aligned with the final production specifications.
