A powerful initiative is underway, offering a glimmer of hope to those in need. The Annual Rotary Medical Camp has opened its doors to over 1,000 residents of Kamwokya, providing free treatment and a chance at a healthier future.
On a bustling Saturday, the Treasure Life Youth Centre (TLC) witnessed an incredible turnout, with people from all walks of life seeking essential healthcare services. This community-focused event, organized by a collaborative effort of Rotary Clubs, aimed to address the healthcare disparities in one of Kampala's most underserved areas.
By mid-morning, the atmosphere was electric as long queues formed, showcasing the community's eagerness for medical attention. The camp's impact was evident, attracting over 1,000 individuals and becoming one of the largest medical outreaches in the region.
The District 913 Governor, Geoffrey Martin Kitakule, praised the Rotary Clubs for their dedication to transforming lives in Kamwokya. He emphasized the collaborative spirit that made this camp possible and highlighted Rotary's long-term commitment to the community's well-being.
Speaking to the beneficiaries, Kitakule shared the camp's vision: "We're here to make a difference, offering essential medical services to the residents of Kamwokya. This health camp is a testament to our commitment as Rotarians to improve lives."
He further elaborated on Rotary's support for the Kamwokya Christian Caring Community Health Centre (KCCC), showcasing its growth and impact. "When we began our journey with KCCC, it could manage only one birth at a time. Now, it handles multiple births, and this incubator will ensure a fighting chance for newborns with complications."
Kitakule expressed gratitude towards the partners who joined forces, including Housing Finance Bank and Seek Care, among others. Their collective effort made this camp a reality.
Maximilia Byenkya, President of the Rotary Club of Kitante, emphasized the power of unity: "Working together, we can achieve so much more. Today, we offer a range of services, from general check-ups to dental and eye care, HIV testing, and more."
Byenkya highlighted the camp's success, noting, "With the combined efforts of our three Rotary Clubs, we expect to serve over 1,000 patients today."
She further explained the theme for this Rotary year, "Unite for Good," emphasizing the impact of collaboration: "When we unite our resources and minds, we think bigger and give more."
The choice of Kamwokya was intentional, Byenkya added, "Kamwokya faces immense challenges, with many lacking access to basic services. That's why we focus our efforts here, where the need is greatest."
Stella Arwako, President of the Rotary Club of Kyaddondo, praised the partnership that brought the three clubs together. "This collaboration allows us to reach more residents, and I'm grateful to the locals for their support."
Joseph Kato, Chairman of the Kamwokya Church Zone, extended his gratitude to the Rotarians: "We welcome you to our village and thank you for your consistent support. Your efforts in educating our children and skilling our youth are invaluable."
A highlight of the camp was the donation of an infant incubator by the Rotary Club of Kitante and Octopas Medical Facility to KCCC. This equipment will provide critical care for premature babies and newborns, offering a lifeline to families facing financial constraints.
Powered by over 10 partners, including C-Care, Reproductive Health Uganda, and more, the medical camp went beyond treatment, restoring hope and resilience to the residents of Kamwokya. Through partnerships and service, the Rotary Clubs continue their mission to build a healthier and more resilient community.
